Electrical Resistivity Tomography Survey for Soil Settlement / Depression Assessment & Survey, North & East Side of Raw Water Pond, UCH Power Plant, Dera Murad Jamali, Balochistan

The raw water pond in the UCH power plant site had shown settlement along the embankments of the raw water pond, the settlement is likely to have been caused by the soil washout in the subsurface or even underground cavities – however, the assumed cause of settlement does not provide enough information to mitigate the risk properly, an informed approach was required which can guide on further comprehend the problem in hand.

The key information required in the scope of work (SOW) included:

1. The possible cause of the settlement which may include underground cavities, soil washout, extended hydraulic connectivity
2. Depth, orientation and lateral and vertical distribution of the above features

Electrical Resistivity Tomographic (ERT) survey along with two (02) different profiles was conducted at the site to gather the information.
